SUMMARY
The Ring was a speculative design project from my second year of university, where we imagined a future 100 years ahead. Our team envisioned a floating airport enabling mid-air transfers, addressing shrinking land availability and the inefficiencies of traditional layovers.
the future of airports is in the sky
The Ring is a futuristic, mega circular airport in the sky, set 100 years in the future. It is completely out of the world and eliminates the need for planes to land during layovers by capturing and refueling them midair.
Concept Trailer
A concept trailer was filmed and crafted from scratch with added visual effects to immerse the audience into this futuristic world we are building
a futuristic interface
for checking-in
This project uses 3D, fluid and dynamic visuals to reimagine a check-in interface that feels seamless and natural.
inspired by sci-fi
and architecture
The Ring’s design draws inspiration from sci-fi films and modern biophilic architecture, blending nature with technology. Concept art and sketches were created to imagine this floating structure.
terminals designed
within the structure
The circular structure allows planes to pass through its center, while embedded terminals enable temporary disembarkation before takeoff. This allows planes to come and go in all directions without crowding issues.
Designing for
a century ahead
The circular, floating design feels otherworldly yet fitting, as we imagine a future a century from now where anything is possible.
explore within
The ring
The companion app guides passengers through The Ring with clear graphics and visual directional cues, offering access to shopping, leisure, entertainment, and more.
dynamic
luggage tags
The Ring imagines an all-digital, dynamic luggage tags that adapts to live updates on your flights and displays the most relevant information when you need them
An all-in-one
structure
The Ring was meticulously designed to integrate architecture, greenery, and parks within its internal structure, creating a self-sustaining miniature city housed within the megastructure.
